Crossbow competitions

National Small-bore Rifle Association

the N.S.R.A. is the National Governing body for the crossbow in the UK and is affiliated to the IAU

they run a  number of competitions throughout the year, currently these are postal competitions, that a competition where you shoot your targets on your home range, have them witnessed and send the results off to the competition manager, who correlates them and publishes the results. the postal competitions are run over  3 months. Generally, they follow the rules laid down by the IAU for either field crossbow or match crossbow.

The NSRA also produce a set of rules for crossbow

Current Competitions available from the NSRA are as follows

Competition open to non-members of the NSRA

Postal Competitions for Sport Crossbow (10m) and Target Crossbow (18m)


Competition 700 – Sport Crossbow 10M

  • Draw weight of the crossbow not to exceed 50lbs

Range:     10m

Targets:   Target Face 40cm three spot – outward scoring ignore inner 10

Round:    5 ends of 3 bolts, 1 shot per Target (15 shots = 150 Max score) per round

                   All 5 ends to be completed in the same day


Competition 701– Target Crossbow 18M

– Draw weight of the crossbow not to exceed 95lbs

Range:     18m

Targets:   Target Face 40cm three spot – inward scoring ignore inner 10 . Clear 10 to be circled on score sheet

Round:    10 ends of 3 bolts, 1 shot per Target (30 shots = 300 Max score) per round

                   All 10 ends to be completed in the same day.


Competition 702– Open Crossbow 18M

– Draw weight of the crossbow unlimited.

Range:     18m

Targets:   Target Face 40cm three spot – inward scoring ignore inner 10. Clear 10 to be circled on the score sheet

Round:    10 ends of 3 bolts, 1 shot per Target (30 shots = 300 Max score) per round

                   All 10 ends to be completed on the same day

there will also be an outdoor shoulder to shoulder competition at the NSRA centre in Aldersley on the 6th July 2019

run a number of outdoor competitions for field and 3d targets, bows are limited in power and compounds are not allowed in competition.

the system is you become a member, you then get assessed for your shooting safety, you can then shoot in their comps.
